The description on Amazon and on the Asus Web site says that the operating system is Windows XP Home.
Don’t believe it! It really has the truly crappy Windows 7 Starter, a horrible joke of an operating system.
If this thing had been for me and not my grandson. it would have been returned in a flash. But he is dying to get it, so pleaded with me not to return it. I think he is going to be sorry.
Windows 7 Starter is a deal breaker to me. Windows 7 is OK, I use Home Premium and Pro X64 on other machines here, but Starter is a horrible, horrible piece of crippled unadulterated junk. And Microsoft wants $80, yes $80 for the upgrade. Since Amazon sells the Home version “anything” upgrade for $110, that gives you an indication as to just how crappy starter is.
Be warned!
Also, that support CD? Forget that, only has the Windows 7 DVD in the box.
The EEE itself? OK for a toy, I guess. Just don’t think you’re getting an actual serious computer.

I received ASUS netbook and charged it for 8 hours before turning it on. Did 2GB upgrade. Started having issues with it freezing up while shutting down and had to pull the battery to get it to turn off several times. Noticed the battery was 100% and showed 7 hours run time. Now after three days of use 100% is only 5 hours 3 minutes run time. Definately a problem here. Next problem is the screen freezing and going fuzzy with alot of horizontal lines whenever I switch to electric while using. Have to pull the battery again to get it to shut off. I’m sending this thing back…too many headaches.

This is a good computer. The only problem with it is that it does not nave CD drive, and it cost a lot.

Light wieght and easy to use. Only problem is the resolution of the images is 1024X600, not good enough for a lot of program…….A little slow at times……

THIS IS A FIRST DAY OF USE REVIEW. I’M NOT OUT OF EXPRESS GATE/SPLASHTOP YET. MAY NOT GET OUT OF IT EITHER! BOOTS IN ABOUT 6 SECONDS BY MY COUNT. IT’S LINUX BY GOLLY!
NO VIRUS, SPYWARE AND KEY LOGGERS TO WORRY ABOUT. SPLASHTOP IS GOOD ENOUGH
FOR WHAT I DO EVERY DAY.
AS FOR THE 1001P IT’S A NETBOOK. IT’S SMALL AND HEAVIER THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE.
BUILD QUALITY IS SUPERB. SCREEN CLARITY IS OK TOO.
I PLUGGED IN A LOGITECH V220 WIRELESS MOUSE AND IT WORKS! HAVEN’T TRIED A PRINTER YET.
THE ONE WEAK POINT IS THE PLUG FOR THE CHARGER. IT’S VERY SMALL. LOOKS LIKE IT WOULD BE EASY TO BREAK.
I PLAN TO USE A BAGGY FOR THE 1001P WHEN I PUT IT INTO THE TIMBUK2 CASE I HAVE FOR IT.
I PUT 2GB OF MEMORY IN IT. I CAN’T TELL A DIFFERENCE…
I’M TYPING THIS REVIEW ON IT.
I PUT AN 8GB SDHC CARD IN TOO. I’VE DOWNLOADED SOME WINDOWS STUFF TO IT.
SPLASHTOP SEES IT JUST FINE.
FIVE STARS. SO FAR SO GOOD…
P.S. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO CANNOT ABIDE ALL CAPS PLEASE BEAR IN MIND THAT I AM A 63 YEAR OLD VIET-NAM VET WITH CATARACTS FROM WAY TOO MUCH FUN IN THE SUN BACK IN 1968. I CAN SEE ALL CAPS A LITTLE BETTER…
