I purchased this product in March 2009 to replace an OEM charger that failed in two years. HP wanted about $56 for a new charger and this one costs about half that. I had doubts about whether this product is actually made by HP but still bought it.

The charger performed just as well (and poorly) as my old one. It charged my laptop well enough. It got hot (not quite enough to burn me or start fires), but not more so than the original equipment.

The adapter-to-AC-source cable developed a break in the wiring in February 2010 (about a week ago) meaning it wouldn’t charge without careful arrangement of the cables. It produced sparks today (2-21-10). I promptly threw away the offending cable and subbed in an on-hand replacement.

I’d probably buy this product again (still knowing that it’s probably not genuine HP) since HP offends me with ridiculous pricing on poorly engineered products. At least with this charger I’m paying less for a poorly engineered product.

In summary: half the price, half the lifespan.

bought this item in april 09. adapter stopped working in september 09. extra care was taken when using and storing adapter for the simple fact that the old one stopped working because of constantly kinking the cords. contacted seller and they stated they would not be able to do anything about it. i hope amazon does something about this seller since it looks like they could give them a bad name. seller Westronics.

The HP listed as the maker here is not Hewlett Packard but Heweitt Packang.

Mine seemed to get overheated and died four months after I started using it.

However I didn’t expect much else for the price I paid. Just a note to not be fooled into thinking it is a true Hewlett Packard product.
